This was too great not to share! Just imagine if more four-year-olds were listening to Nels!
He’s also probably popular with the preschool crowd because he’s the member of Wilco who most resembles a happy, loose-limbed Dr. Seuss character.

The studio version of “Muzzle of Bees” came up on my iPod yesterday, and immediately it made me think of this version, made so much better by Nels’ cascading solo at the end.

There are a lot of pre-Nels Wilco songs that I love, but whenever I hear them live or listen to more recent live recordings of them, I feel like they sound so much brighter because of what Nels adds.

Enjoy this video—it’s a good one for a sunny Friday!

Maybe not the wild stories we were all hoping for, but still some funny moments in this interview.

It will never happen in a million years (the chances of Wilco even seeing Dylan backstage are probably slim), but I’ve spent the day thinking about what Dylan songs I’d love to hear Nels make a guest appearance on.

Under the Radar interview

New Zealand music website Under the Radar published a nice interview with Nels today. As always, it sounds like he’s been busy with a lot of projects, and he mentions that he and Julian Lage will be recording an album next month. He also talks a little about what he’s been listening to lately (“Anytime I’m in a bad mood I can put on Deerhoof and feel better.”)

Wilco plays in Wellington on Friday and Auckland on Saturday. Then it’s off to Japan!

Awesome shot!
