Nels Cline & Julian Lage - SubCulture

Nels and Julian Lage will play at SubCulture in the West Village on November 25 (two days before Thanksgiving). Doors are at 8 and the show is at 9. Buy tickets in advance and save $5! This will no doubt be an album release party, since the show falls on the release date for their first album, Room, on Mack Avenue Records (the same label that released the Singers’ album earlier this year).

I bet if you ask nicely enough, Nels will make a hand turkey drawing for you after the show.

I got to see Nels play with Cibo Matto in Baltimore tonight at the Ottobar. These aren’t the best pictures, but I was too busy dancing to worry about taking any more. I loved their energy and Yuka and Miho’s dance moves. Nels was pogoing like crazy during Birthday Cake!

Thanks to the Ottobar for the tickets! I had been on the fence about going since it was a weeknight show out of town. Winning a pair of tickets was the universe’s way of telling me I needed to squeeze in a trip to see Nels play this week!

The Nels Cline Singers, November 8, 2014 at 9 PM (Concerts from the Library of Congress, 2014-2015)

The Singers will be playing at the Atlas Performing Arts Center in Washington DC on November 8 at 9 p.m., an event sponsored by the Library of Congress. Even better, tickets are FREE—you just need to pay a $2 processing fee per ticket.

There was a snafu with making tickets available online this morning, but you can order them now by following the link above or by calling the Atlas box office.

I can’t wait to get the chance to see the Singers one more time this year! They’ll also be playing at Rough Trade in Brooklyn on November 10 and at Firehouse 12 in New Haven, CT, on November 7. Cyro Baptista has another commitment for that weekend but will join them for the Brooklyn show.

Unfold Ordinary Mind - Tickets - The Boot & Saddle - Philadelphia, PA - August 26th, 2014

If you’re in or near Philadelphia tonight, don’t miss Nels performing as part of Ben Goldberg’s Unfold Ordinary Mind at Boot and Saddle. Doors are at 8 and the show is at 8:30. Note that due to a scheduling conflict, Ches Smith can’t appear tonight and will be replaced by drummer Allison Miller.

I live close enough to Philadelphia that this show isn’t totally impossible for me, but my work schedule is going to make it pretty tough for me to get there.

Sorry I haven’t posted more lately. My life has been pretty crazy for the last month. I’ll be updating the site more now that things are starting to settle down. Nels will be keeping busy in the fall (as always), so there will be a lot to post about!

Nels and Jim Black at the Stone, 8/5/14. Tim Berne had a family emergency and wasn’t able to join them. They were a duo for the first set then were joined by guitarist Mike Gamble for the second set.

John Scofield joins the Singers for their first set tonight. I’ll be in line early enough to snag a great seat!

Scott Amendola: "Fade To Orange" PRE-ORDER

Scott Amendola’s orchestral project Fade to Orange has reached its fundraising goal on Pledge Music, but you can still contribute to the campaign! As little as $10 will get you a download of Fade to Orange, and if you happen to have an extra $15,000 laying around, you can have your very own private Nels Cline Singers show (please invite me if you do…).

If you’re a lover of jazz and experimental music, some of the pledge perks are a great way to fill in your collection. The collection of Nels Cline Singers albums, for instance, is actually cheaper than buying the albums would be!

This project has been in the work for quite some time, and I’m really glad to see that things are falling into place. I’m looking forward to a framed Nels Cline Singers set list on my wall in the coming months while I listen to what’s sure to be an amazing composition.

Check the pockets of your winter coats and dig around in your couch for spare cash and make a pledge today!

I’m on the train on my way to New York to catch a few nights of Nels’ residency at the Stone. I’ll be seeing him play with Jim Black tonight and with the Singers tomorrow (along with a super secret special guest), and I’m hoping to catch at least one more set while I’m in town. If you’re in the New York area, you can check out the full schedule here.

Nels Cline + Greg Saunier + Nick Reinhart + Mike Watt = Big Walnuts Yonder - in the Studio recording debut LP

sargenthouse:

For over a year this has been in the works, four of my favorite players on Earth together in one room making a record that we get to release. I’m still pinching myself that this is real. Nels Cline (Wilco), Greg Saunier (Deerhoof), Nick Reinhart (Tera Melos) and Mike Watt
